A tragic accident occurred Wednesday afternoon when a man was killed after his work truck struck a live power line along a highway in Sheridan County, Kansas.
Incident Details
The incident took place around 3 p.m. on K-23 Highway, near County Road 70 South, approximately 6 miles south of Hoxie, in northwest Kansas. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1979 Kenworth flatbed-style truck-tractor, hauling an oil derrick, was traveling south on K-23. As the driver attempted to make a right-hand turn into a ditch for more clearance, the truck came into contact with live power lines along the north side of County Road 70 South.
Driver Ejected and Pronounced Dead at the Scene
The driver, identified as Shawn P. Kinder, 53, from Wichita, was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Despite efforts to assist, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol reported that Kinder was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Pedestrian Involvement
A pedestrian, identified as Leonard M. Ramsey, 48, from Natoma, managed to enter the vehicle after the accident and applied the parking brake. Ramsey was reported as unharmed.
